Babe's career didn't start like everyone thought it did. He only played a total of five games in his first season with the Boston Red Sox, pitching in four of them. But as his career lengthened so did his playing time and mindset. During the 1916-17 seasons he became a renowned pitcher, having 23 and 24 win seasons. But he still wasn't the king at the plate that everyone knows today. That all changed in the 1918 season when his positioned changed from pitcher to right field. With the chance to be in the field more he was given more oppurtunities up to bat. His at bats sky-rocketed, almost tripling.
